Fired Up was created to provide the space and equipment to allow clay artists and potters of all levels to explore their creativity and work in a supportive environment. Fired Up offers a variety of options inlcuding studio membership, instruction, and firing memberships.

Our Mission

Our mission is for our members to have fun and leave Fired Up in a better mood than when they arrived!

Our Facility

Our facility is on the second floor of a rehabilitated warehouse in Minneapolis's "Nordeast" district. We have several rooms: the gallery, office and gas kiln occupy 2400 square feeet; the main studio (which houses the classroom, member spaces, equipment, the glazing area, and the bisque kilns) is approximately 7200 square feet.

These rooms are convenient to each other and both have 12 foot ceilings with huge glass block windows for natural light throughout most of the day.

All our members receive 24 hour access, 7 days a week, to our main studio. This workroom houses our clay equipment, work tables, the glaze area, the 3 bisque kilns, racks for greenware and bisqueware, and member shelves and private studios. The large glass block walls, many windows, and high ceilings give the workroom a bright, airy feel. The workroom also includes a small lounge area where members can take a break and relax, or eat their lunch. The lounge area is complete with microwave and refrigerator. We even have a small library including various books and back issues of Ceramics Monthly and Clay Times.

This room also includes our classroom. The classroom is sectioned off from the main work area and member storage space. This creates a separate space for classes that won't interfer with members who wish to work while classes are in session.

The Gallery/Office/Gas Kiln Room (2400 sq. ft.)

This was the original space for Fired Up. It now contains the gallery and office, as well as the 40 cubic foot gas kiln and racks for raw-glazed work.

Fired Up members have the opportunity to display their work for sale in our own gallery. The gallery is open to the public 6 days a week from Noon to 5:00 p.m. We are closed on Wednesdays.

Kilns

Electric Kilns: Bisque Firing (Cone 06)

We have 3 electric kilns that we use to bisque our members' work. We bisque fire on a daily basis in order to move our members' work through the process as quickly and safely as possible. Our bisque firing program takes approximately 18 hours. This helps us make certain that our members' work comes out as safely as possible.

Gas Kiln: Cone 10 Reduction

We have a 40 cubic feet gas kiln, custom-made by a master kiln builder. We schedule our gas kiln to fire a minimum of once a week (usually on Tuesdays). Our current schedule is posted on our Home Page and also on the bulletin board in the main studio. Work must be glazed,ready for firing and on the shelves by 3:00 p.m. the day before a scheduled Firing (usually on Mondays).We schedule extra firings when demand requires it.
